Review: Too Many Bones

Let's Roll!

As an avid board game enthusiast always looking for a new experience, I'd love to share my thoughts on Too Many Bones. Let me start by saying that this game is an absolute blast to play! The designers, Adam Carlson and Josh J. Carlson, have truly outdone themselves with this cooperative gem. As a player, you get to step into the shoes of unique characters called "gearlocs" and band together with your friends to take down all manner of challenging enemies and bosses.

Let me start by saying that this game is an absolute blast to play!

Production Value vs. Gameplay?

What sets Too Many Bones apart from other games is its incredible dice-based combat system. Forget traditional dice with numbers - this game comes with so many unique dice it will make your head spin, sometimes literally, lol. Characters are represented by high-quality custom poker chips whose heft and clacking when stacked make for an amazing table presence. Rolling these dice is so satisfying, and it's so rewarding as you decide how to use their unique symbols and where to place them in your character's ability trees.

But the game's real selling point isn't just the high production value that gives it such a presence, but the sheer amount of clever content and unique mechanics packed into it. With a wide range of gearlocs to choose from, an impressive array of enemies and bosses to face, and different scenarios and campaigns to play through, there is always something new to discover. You could play this game a dozen times and still find something you hadn't seen before.

Those Components Though!

As amazing as the original gameplay is, I just have to echo the game's high-quality components. The poker chips representing the gearlocs and enemies are heavy-duty and incredibly detailed, and the beautifully illustrated game boards and player mats are all high quality stitched edge neoprene. As we have come to expect, the designers and publishers at Chip Theory Games put a lot of care and attention into every aspect of the game's production.

All in all, Too Many Bones is an absolute must-play for anyone who loves cooperative board games. Sure, it can be a bit complex at first, but once you get the hang of it, the gameplay is so rewarding and engaging. I cannot recommend this game enough - it is truly a masterpiece!
